Designed by famed architect Morris Lapidus, the building's curving facade coated in seafoam-colored brick was an extreme contrast to the somber hues and straight lines of the surrounding skyscrapers. During the next two decades, the bright colors were traded in for muted tones and the name was changed to Loews New York Hotel.
