Located in the heart of Manhattan, The Metropolitan Hotel is just a short ride from all three major metropolitan area airports as well as Grand Central Station. Unveiled in 1961 in front of a crowd that included Judy Garland and Noel Coward, the Metropolitan Hotel, then called The Summit, was the talk of the town for its ideal midtown location and tropical deco look. Designed by famed architect Morris Lapidus, the building's curving facade coated in seafoam-colored brick was an extreme contrast to the somber hues and straight lines of the surrounding skyscrapers. During the next two decades, the bright colors were traded in for muted tones and the name was changed to Loews New York Hotel. But one thing remained the same--the hotel's popularity with people seeking a prime Manhattan location as a base for their city travels.
