Mamajuana Cafe
718-213-4691
- Full Wine Bar
- Live Flamenco Music
- Sunday Brunch
Brooklyn's Washington Heights is home to Mamajuana Cafe & Wine Bar a restaurant that has successfully integrated attributes of the "Taino Indian" with "Old World" Spanish style. The motif was inspired by "Mamajuanas" a fermented-herbal drink that was created by the Taino as a healing remedy. The decor is a tasteful fusion of Old World Spanish architecture and Taino inspired artifacts. Entering Mamajuana is taking a voyage back to the year 1492 and experiencing the tradition, history and unique dining. So what exactly is a Mamajuana? A "miracle" potion developed in the DR, Mamajuana is a concoction of various herbs, roots, leaves & bark that is mixed with rum, gin, wine, honey & lemon to cure everything from impotency to the stomach flu. If the taste can be tolerated, Mamajuana is used to promote overall good health, sexuality & vitality. Only a handful of families still brew the mixture!
